Sell Used Car

It is natural to want to get as much money back when you sell your automobile. For a successful sale, remind yourself what buyers are looking for - a comfortable drive which looks great inside as well as out. Here are a few reminders for reselling:

The Engine Test

You can be sure buyers will want to test drive your car, so make sure it is in top condition to perform. Repair or replace any damaged car part which affects driving and carry out these essential car checks to ensure everything is in working order:

• Have the oil changed. • If possible have the car tuned up.
• Check the tyres for correct alignment, pressure, and tread depth.
• Check the car’s brake fluid, windscreen washer, and radiator coolant.

The Aesthetic Test

Buyers want pretty cars, or at least those that look well maintained. Check the following to make sure the car is presentable when the buyers call on it:

• Check that all lights are cleaned and repaired
• Replace missing trims or badges
• Repair damaged wheels. Even alloys can be repaired.
• Take the car to the wash for cleaning and detailing, and maybe an engine wash.
• Rub out scratches or have minor paint touch ups done.
• Wax or polish to create the perfect sheen.
• Vacuum the carpets, mats, seats, and dusty crevices
• Polish and fix minor damages to the dash
• Empty the ashtrays
• Use an air freshener or odour neutraliser

Set a Reasonable Price

Ask around car lots and individual sellers, check in the papers and online to find out the base reselling value of your car. Don’t expect to make a profit from the amount you bought it, unless it is a vintage collectible model. You can always trust buyers to haggle so set the price a little higher than expected.

Place the Ad

You can place an ad in the local paper, or online. Here are basic points to cover:

• Highlight the car’s best features (Such as performance mods, climate control, or low mileage).
• Keep the ad short and simple and stick to clear concise descriptions.
• Provide at least one good photo.
• Don’t forget your contact number.
